John A. Dantuma

John Albert Dantuma, passed away peacefully at his home, on March 25, 2024, in Holland, Michigan, at the age of 88. John was born on April 15, 1935, the son of Edward and Ruby Dantuma, in Byron Center, MI. He spent his youth working on the family farm and driving race cars. John also proudly served his country in the Michigan National Guard. After marrying the love of his life, Virginia, they raised their family in Muskegon, MI. Virginia preceded him in death on December 31, 2023. The legacy of their partnership is continued through their sons, John and his wife Karen, Wayne and his wife Beth, Kevin and Donna, Brian and his wife Janna, as well as their cherished 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. John is also warmly remembered by his in-laws, Katherine (Jim) Sobers and MaryJo Slagle, who were an integral part of his extended family. Professionally, John was a respected field service technician for Burroughs (Unisys) Corporation. His career was marked not only by his skill in repairing and maintaining adding machines and, later, computers, but also by the countless friendships he forged. Known for his amiable nature and witty sense of humor, John's presence was a welcome addition to any situation, especially the daily gatherings at Russ' where he enjoyed coffee and camaraderie with friends. John's passions included his faith, which served as the cornerstone for his life. He was a charter member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church and a pillar in the choir’s bass section. His family was his pride and joy, and he took every opportunity to make memories that would be treasured for generations. A true enthusiast of antique cars, John spent many hours meticulously restoring and maintaining his prized vehicles, ensuring they remained not only functional pieces of history but also symbols of his dedication and attention to detail. He also had a passion for making people laugh everywhere he went. He used to say, "Always have a smile on your face, it makes people wonder what you're up to." A man with a knack for fixing things, John was the go-to person whenever something was broken. His ability to repair the irreparable was a talent and a gift. Whether repairing a bicycle for neighborhood children, or an old television set for a friend, John loved to bring new life to old things. John's life was a testament to the values of hard work, loyalty, and kindness. His impact on those he encountered was profound and lasting. A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St., Zeeland, MI, with Rev. James H. Scholten officiating. Visitation will be 11:30-12:45 pm prior to the service. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery in Bryon Center, MI.
