Daniel DeLeeuw

Daniel Charles DeLeeuw, 63, died on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 8, 1955, in Holland, Michigan, the seventh of thirteen children, to Warner and Frayna DeLeeuw Jr, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death, his sister Carolyn Essenburgh and his brother, Steve DeLeeuw. Dan graduated from Holland Christian High School and attended Grand Valley State University. He was a partner in DeLeeuw Lumber Company, where he worked his entire career; often speaking in his sleep of 2x4s and other rough cuts. He was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church and an elected member of the Park Township Board of Trustees. He was the best kind of company – keenly attuned to the importance and value of each person, natural with a joke, and generous with his love for his family and the Lord. He will be greatly missed. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Joan Van Kampen DeLeeuw, and daughter, Elizabeth (Evan Burton) of New York City. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Ann (Robert Decker) of Louisville, Kentucky; Dr. Warner (Lynne) of West Olive; brother-in-law Thomas Essenburgh of Holland; Nancy (John Bolt) of Holland; Gayle (Michael Grotenhuis) of West Olive; Faith (Calvin Prins) of Holland; Dawn (Preston Kragt) of Holland; Janice (Scott Vanden Berg) of Holland; Kristi (Michael Dekker) of West Olive; David (Duke) (Jennifer) of West Olive; John of West Olive; and sister-in-law, Lori DeLeeuw of West Olive. He also is survived by his father- and mother-in law, Bernie and Faye Van Kampen of Holland; his sister-in-law Londa (Mark Kurburski) of Holland; his brother-in-law Dan (Dana) Van Kampen; maternal aunts, Marilyn Colman and Gladys Colman, both of Algonac, Michigan. He also leaves to cherish great memories many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation with Dan's family will take place from 6pm to 8:30pm on Thursday, June 7, and Friday, June 8, from 1pm to 3pm and from 6pm to 8:30pm at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th Street, Holland 49423. A celebration of Dan's life will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, June 9, at Calvary Christian Reformed Church, 400 Beeline Road, Holland 49424. Interment will be in the DeLeeuw family plot in Lakewood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Benjamin's Hope, or Kid's Life Bible Clubs.
