Joyce Vanden Bosch

Joyce Elaine Warners Vanden Bosch, a woman of unwavering faith, a caring heart, and a love for adventure, passed away at the age of 91. Born in Grand Rapids in September 1933, she spent her childhood on a farm in Jamestown, creating cherished memories with friends while roller skating, bowling, and spending time at the beach. After marrying Roger Vanden Bosch, Joyce moved to Zeeland. They raised two children, Steven and Shelley, and were active in their community through groups like the Zeeland Hospital Guild and the Young Married group at church. With a flair for design, Joyce designed the home they built, a true reflection of her creative spirit. Once her youngest child was in kindergarten, she began working at John Thomas Batts as the receptionist and switchboard operator, a perfect role for her warm and welcoming personality. Joyce was a cornerstone of Community Reformed Church, where she was a charter member. For years, she guided four-year-olds in Sunday school and served on countless committees, including the search committee for the first pastor and the one that selected the church organ. She also helped restart the Women's Group, was a Barnabas Leader, and enjoyed being part of the church volleyball and bell choirs. Her adventurous spirit was infectious. She loved traveling, helping plan Gert's Getaway trips for many years and taking her family on unforgettable vacations across the USA, Canada, and the Caribbean. Her love for genealogy even led to an incredible house exchange in the Netherlands with a relative she'd discovered. Joyce and Roger's travels took them to destinations as far as China, Russia, and throughout Europe, including Scandinavia. Even in her late 70s, she wasn't afraid of new experiences, going parasailing with her daughter. Joyce had many talents, including gardening, sewing, and floral arranging. But her greatest gift was her selfless love for others. After Roger was diagnosed with Parkinson's, Joyce learned nursing skills to care for him at home. She was always the first to help a neighbor in need, whether with a card, a visit, or a homemade meal. Joyce is survived by her children, Steven Vanden Bosch and Shelley (Wayne) Rumsey; grandchildren Katelyn (Joshua) Burkett and Tyler (Hannah) Rumsey; her in-laws, Martin Kinser and Betty Berkenpas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Roger Vanden Bosch; her parents, Bert and Cora Warners; and her siblings, Marvin Warners, Carolyn Berkenpas, and Jan Kinser. She was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Warren Vanden Bosch, Nora and Kurt Student, and Fritz Berkenpas. A funeral service will be held at Community Reformed Church on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will take place at Zeeland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Resthaven, Inc, or Faith Hospice.
