Mr. Lyle Hop

Lyle Hop, 81, of Zeeland, passed away on, Saturday, January 3, 2015. Lyle was born May 7, 1933, in Beaverdam, to Arie and Lottie Hop. Lyle graduated from Zeeland High and was a track athlete. He never lost a race his senior year until finishing third in the state championship race. Lyle enlisted in the U.S. Army and later graduated from Hope College. He became a teacher in Zeeland Schools. Lyle married Jean Schipper and they raised their family in Zeeland and they are members of Community Reformed Church. Lyle painted during the summer months of his 27 years of teaching and painted full time for many more years. Lyle enjoyed racing pigeons in the Holland Racing Pigeon Club, and later raising chickens and geese. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: James and Dorothy Hop, Geneva Hop, Gerrit and Carolyn Hop Assink, Jerome and Jeanette Hop Gras, James and Evelyn Hop Gras, Blanche and Alvin Hop Dykema, Charlotte and Ben Hop Brandsen; in-laws: Ray Weenum, George Boneburg, Ron Schipper, Sylvia Schipper Aukee. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean, children: Steven and the late Ruth Hop, Joel and Michelle Hop, Thomas and Debbie Hop, James and Tina Hop, David Hop and Heather Kelley; grandchildren: Adam and Charity Hop, Molly Hop, Peter Hop, Chad and Katie Hop, Ryan and Cayla Hop, Joshua and Michelle Covert, Nick and Megan Covert, Ethan Hop, Kyle Hop; great-grandchildren: Alexander, Madison, Zachary, Aubrey, Finch, Juno, Anneli, Garrett; siblings: Sherk and Rosie Hop, Vera Hop Weenum, Arloa Hop Boneburg, Dale and Marilyn Hop, Duane and Wanda Hop; in-laws: Joyce Post Schipper, Donald and Eunice Schipper Northuis, Waino and Caroline Aukee, George and Ann Schipper, Charlie and Mary Schipper Follett, many extended family and a host of beloved friends. A funeral service to honor and remember Lyle Hop will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Community Reformed Church, 10376 Felch Street, Zeeland. The Revs. Trent Walker, Greg Ten Brink, and Kurt Henry will officiate. Visitation will be 4-7 pm, Wednesday at Community Reformed Church. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
