Peggy Ann Minert

Peggy Ann Minert, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 84. Born and raised in St. Louis, MI, Peggy was the cherished daughter of Jo and Gene Neely and the loving sister of Linda Neely. Peggy attended Ferris Institute and began her career as a secretary, a role in which she excelled before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Alan Minert, in 1964. Due to Alan’s job, Al and Peg embarked on a journey that would take them to various locations across the country. Though the frequent moves presented challenges, Peggy’s warm and adaptable nature allowed her to embrace each new community with open arms, collecting friends and memories along the way. Wherever their travels took them, Peggy made all those around her feel welcome and accepted. Their travels took them to Milwaukee, WI; Indianapolis, IN; Flint, MI; Aurora, CO; Oscoda, MI; Coldwater, MI; Pago Pago, American Samoa; Newberry, MI; Mt. Pleasant, MI; Hicksville, OH; Washington, DC; and finally, Holland, MI, where they have resided since 2008. Peggy had a deep love for teaching and spent many years sharing her knowledge and passion with children and adults alike, especially through Sunday school. Her favorite volunteer pastime was teaching gardening, crochet, sewing, and knitting to women and her family members, skills that not only provided practical benefits but also fostered connection and creativity within her community and family. Finally, she had a passion for social justice, which reflected her values of hospitality and acceptance. She wrote letters to the editor and occasionally engaged offenders in the grocery store. Family was at the heart of Peggy’s life. She was the devoted wife of Alan and a loving mother to their three children: Amy, Jay, and Aiden. Her grandchildren brought her immense joy and pride: Thomas, Kieran, and Kalena (children of Aiden and Kylan Dragon); Madeleine and Gabriel (children of Amy and Andrew Salunga); and Malik (child of Jay Minert and eeman Agrama Minert). Peggy’s love for her family was boundless, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her home and her garden were a haven. Peggy spent countless hours cultivating a home full of laughter and joy, where grandchildren could roam free in her gardens, off to play badminton in the meticulously kept lawn, or catch bumblebees nestled in the flowers. Peggy’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of teaching, community service, and family devotion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be touched by her life. A service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Peggy’s memory to First United Methodist Church, 57 West 10th St. Holland, Michigan.
