Wayne Glass

Wayne Glass, age 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours on Monday, October 7, 2024. Born August 29, 1936, the 13th out of 15 children. Wayne is preceded in death by his wife Jacqueline (Jackie) Glass, both of his parents, Martin and Katherine Glass; siblings, Mildred (Tom) Rosema, Martin Jr. (Johanna) Glass, Bernice (Chester) Cramer, Adrian (Verna) Glass, Josephine Hulst, Delbert Sr. (Louise) Glass, Dorlene (Don) VanderPloeg, Bernard Glass, Baby Katie Glass, Kathleen (Marty) Everett, Virgil (Lois) Glass; his twin, Wesley (Necia) Glass; and Richard (Phyllis) Glass. He is survived by his three children, Mitchell (Amy) Glass, Laurie Tamminga, Julie (Eric) Dalman; grandchildren, Natasha and Rob Zegar (Ella Zegar), Shanna Tamminga, Cord Tamminga (Madelyn Shilling), Tiana Tamminga (Leela and Kain Six), Kathryn and Brian Kingsley (Benjamin and Kaylee), Matthew Dalman, Morgan Dalman, Tyler (Kenzie) Dalman; sister, Karen (Bob) Wissink; in-laws, Phyllis (Rich) Glass, Lois (Virgil) Glass, Edward (Lou) VanTimmeren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. At the age of 19 dad enlisted in the Navy and served for 4 years on the USS Lake Champlain (CV-39) aircraft carrier as a machinist mate in the engine room doing three tours of duty in the Mediterranean. While on leave from his military service he reconnected with Jacqueline VanTimmeren, whom he knew since the 4th grade. They were married in 1959 after a short courtship. Upon being discharged from the Navy, Wayne began work as a machinist at Bohn Aluminum where he retired from in 2004. Wayne was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and longtime former member of Haven Christian Reformed Church. Wayne’s passions in life centered around his faith, family and music. Taking family vacations and camping trips to the upper UP, Cheboygan, Ludington, Rice Lake in Canada, and many more. He enjoyed sharing his love of fishing, playing cribbage, visiting garage and estate sales for the best deals on fishing equipment, hand or yard tools to buy for his grandchildren, supporting his grandchildren and great grandchildren at their sporting or school events, and lastly, sharing family meals. Music has always been a part of Wayne’s life and for years he played the tambourine and sang with his twin brother Wesley Glass in the band Corky’s Pals. There he was able to share his faith and love of music to those at the Coopersville Farm Museum, and numerous nursing homes, retirement villages, and local events. Visitation with the family is 3:00-6:00 pm on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St. Zeeland, MI 49464. Funeral services with military honors are at 11:00 am on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA) 1015 East 32nd St. Holland, MI 49423. Burial to take place in Borculo Cemetery.
