Bernardo "Bernie" Lucero Lopez

Bernardo (Bernie) Lucero Lopez, age 73, passed away on October 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Bernie was born on February 28, 1950, in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Adelaida Lucero and Bernardo Lopez. Bernie met his dear wife, Olivia, in his early twenties at a local dance. They married on April 14, 1973. They established their home in Holland, Michigan and grew a family. Out of their union came one daughter, Julia, and two sons, Bernie Jr. and Chris. He was employed as a foundryman for decades. He worked at Western Foundry and Keeler Brass. In addition, Bernie was incredibly skilled with handywork; he worked as a floor installer and in home improvement. He was preceded in death by his daughter. He was also preceded in death by his mother, father; grandson, Christpher Lopez Jr.; nephew, Michael Lopez; stepfather, Porfirio Estrada Sr.; stepmother, Romelia Sanchez de Lopez; sister, Romelia Lopez. Bernie was caring and affectionate to his relatives and friends. For this reason, he became known as a father and grandfather to extended family members and many in the community. He had a natural way of making people feel special, on a personal level. Bernie was authentic and filled whatever room he was in with laughter and his bright smile. His favorite pastime was playing pool at the local pool hall and in pool tournaments. Not only was Bernie talented in playing pool, but he also thrived on the social aspect of billiards. He was outgoing and known for his comedic sarcasm and sass. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Olivia Lopez; dear sons, Bernardo Lopez Jr. and Christopher (Sandy) Lopez; adored grandchildren, Julia (Andrew) Lopez-Whitehall, Celeste Wall, Caleb J. Lopez; Elijah Lopez, Corey Alsip, Dakota Fryar; cherished great-grandchild, Licio Fuentes; siblings; cousins; nieces, nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. Bernie is survived by his maternal siblings, dear brother, Luis Carlos (Eleanor) Lopez; brothers, Porfirio Estrada; Jesus Isidro (Diane) Estrada; Juan de Dios Estrada Lucero; sister, Maria Estella (Cesar Raul) Estrada Lucero. He is also survived by his paternal siblings, brothers, Manuel Lopez; Mario Lopez; Guadalupe Lopez; Alfredo Lopez; sisters, Maria Lopez; Luz Lopez; Carmen Lopez; sisters-in-law, Maria Posada; Elida (Leo) Martinez; brothers-in-law, Jose Posada; Lupe (Esther) Posada. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland. Within the visitation, a brief service, officiated by the Elders of Kingdom Hall, will start at 5:00 p.m.
