Gloria Jean De Kam

May 14, 1939 - July 17, 2021

Gloria Jean De Kam, age 82, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021, after a brief battle with cancer. Gloria was eagerly waiting her Lord and Savior to take her to her eternal home. She was known by all she encountered as a person who emanated love, joy, kindness, empathy, and patience. She devoted herself to her family, her church, and her work. Before retirement, Gloria and her husband owned and operated De Vries and Dornbos Draperies in Holland. Her hobbies were tending her flowers and reading. When in season, she spent hours nurturing and caring for the flowers and always relaxed with a good book. Staying in touch with long time friends was so important to Gloria. She was blessed and strengthened by maintaining these relationships throughout her life. Gloria was a faithful member of the Montello Park CRC serving as Sunday school teacher, discipleship student and leader, and elder. She was currently a member of Community Reformed Church. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, James and Tillie Mulder. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Andy De Kam; children, Donald (KyongSun) De Kam, Brenda De Kam, Jeanna Spoors; grandchildren, Andrew De Kam, Emily (Mark) Stout, Jonathan De Kam, Dominic (Erin) Spoors, Joseph Spoors, Jeremiah De Kam, Evelyn De Kam; and her sister, Joyce Mulder. Visitation with the family is 5:30-8:00 pm, Wednesday, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St. Zeeland, MI 49464. A celebration of Gloria's life will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Community Reformed Church, 10376 Felch St. Zeeland, MI 49464 with Rev. James Busscher officiating. Burial to take place in Zeeland Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Gloria's honor may be given to Bethany Christian Services Refugee Relief or Hospice of Holland.
