He was a dedicated member of Rusk Christian Reformed Church and started the Cadet Program, the Worship Committee, and the Men’s Bible Study there. He also served as a Deacon and an Elder. Gord was a hard worker. He worked at John A. VandenBosch for 42 years as a Warehouse Supervisor. He also worked part time on his father-in-law’s dairy farm. After he retired, he worked part-time at Ken DeBruyn Seed Store in Zeeland and Visser Farms. He loved being outside, mowing lawns, and doing yard work. He loved his grandkids so much. He tried to make every event that each one had. He always took time to play with them and made time to listen to them. He enjoyed camping with the family and above all, he loved his family more than anything, and set a Christian example for all to follow. Gord was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Shirley Berens; and brothers: Ronald Holstege and Arlyn Holstege. He is survived by his wife, Connie, of 54 years; his children: Kurt & Amy Holstege, Greg & Reneé Holstege, Mandi & Jerry Alkema; grandchildren: Minae & Doug Kroeze, Sydney & Brady Zomer, Christian & Tasha Holstege, Kennedy Holstege, Jack, Ellery, & Myah Alkema; great grandchildren: Bryce Zomer, Eva Kroeze, Dax Kroeze; siblings: Ed & Winn Holstege, Jerry & Hilda Holstege, Alvin & Glenda Holstege, Judie Holstege; siblings-in-law: Jim & Karen Wedeven, Randy & Constance Wedeven, Del & Casey Wedeven, Pam & Dennis Driesenga; many special nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bruce & Lois Volkers. The family would like to give a special thanks to Pastor Mark for all his care for Gordon. A service honoring Gord will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Rusk Christian Reformed Church, 10354 92nd Ave. Allendale, MI 49401.
