Laverne W. Brummel

September 10, 1945 - May 4, 2022

Laverne (Vern) Wayne Brummel, age 76, of Holland, MI passed into his Lord’s presence on May 4, 2022 at home, surrounded by his loving family after a 12 year long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Having experienced both God’s blessings and life’s challenges, he is now at peace in the glory of heaven. Born in Bartow, Florida and raised in Zeeland, MI. Vern was a graduate of Holland Christian High School and Davenport University. He was dedicated in his work as a manufacturer’s representative, as well as serving his church in various roles including deacon and elder. Vern was persistent in his walk with Christ, building relationships and leading by his example. Vern was a stalwart husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who left behind a wonderful legacy of faith, uncompromising integrity, generosity and so much more. He ran the good race and reached the prize and is now experiencing a newfound clarity of consciousness as he is walking in the love and embrace of God’s glory in heaven. Vern was preceded in death by his parents Forris and Gertrude Brummel, his parents-in-law Edward and Henreitta De Jonge, his sister Shirley Guevera and brother-in-law, Noe Guevera, brother-in-law Elmer De Jonge, brother-in-law Paul VanderLeek and sister-in-law Joyce Rotshaffer (VanderLeek). Vern is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, Marcia, and by his children Mark (Kari) Brummel and Michelle (Toby) Gruppen; grandchildren Jordan (Marcaé) Palladino, Bailey (Hunter) Brumels, Sophia (Christopher) Blystra, Luke Gruppen and Ella Gruppen, and great-grandson Elijah Palladino. He is also survived by his sister Eileen Brummel, brother and sister-in-law Kevin and Joyce Brummel, sister-in-law Audrey De Jonge, brother-in-law Roger Rottschafer, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Clyde and Jeanne Kinkema, along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, May 5, 2022, from 4-7pm at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th Street, Holland MI 49423. Funeral services will be 11:00am, Friday, May 6, 2022, in the Sanctuary of Christ Memorial Church(Please use Entrance C), 595 Graafschap Rd, Holland MI 49423, with a luncheon immediately following. Private interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions in Vern’s honor may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Holland.
