March 19, 1928 - October 7, 2013 Ruth Schutter, 85, of Oakland, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2013. Ruth was born in Detroit, on March 19, 1928, to John and Theresa (Grandstra) Steffens. She graduated from Hudsonville High School and later married Bernie Schutter. Ruth and Bernie raised their family in the Oakland/Bentheim area and were members of Oakland Christian Reformed Church. Bernie preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons: Chad Kapenga and William Norder. She is survived by her children: Linda and Rick Norder of Jenison, Keith and Vonnie Schutter of Byron Center, Gail and Paul Kapenga of Holland, Robert and Gail Schutter of Hamilton, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jennifer and John Grooters(Tyler, Katlyn), Joel and Brandy Norder(Danielle, Austin), John and Marie Norder(Issac, Layla), Amy Schutter, Ryan and Mia Schutter, Sarah and Darin Dykstra(Collin, Tyler, Kendall), Andrea and Steve De Weerdt(Landon, Bennet), Erin and Michael Slotman(Ava, Emma, Lucy), John and Jayne Schutter; brother Harold and Colene Steffens, in-laws: Howard and Delores Schutter, Lois and Hugh Slenk, Jean and Ron Meyaard, Margaret Dannenberg, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Oakland Christian Reformed Church, 4452 38th Ave., Hamilton, 49419. The Rev. Vern Swieringa will officiate. Visitation will be 12 noon-1:45 pm, prior to the service at Oakland CRC. Burial will be in Bentheim Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Christian Services-Lifeline.
