Albert "Al" Lenine Hegedus

Albert (Al) L. Hegedus, age 92 of Zeeland, MI., passed away peacefully Monday July 24, 2023, at Riley's Grove Assisted Living in the comforting care of Hospice surrounded by family. Despite advancing age and failing health, he always kept his faith in God. Al was born November 14, 1930, in Detroit, MI. to the late Albert and Mary (Koenigsknecht) Hegedus. He met Mildred Moss at the local soda fountain, and were happily married June 9th, 1951, and remained together until she preceded him in death in 2008. He worked in the grocery business his entire career, first for Merchant's Wholesale in Detroit and Grand Rapids and finishing his career as the office manager for Spartan Stores, Inc., out of Plymouth, MI. He and Millie loved being outdoors so much they retired to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. They built their home on Round Lake near Munising, in the Hiawatha National Forest, enjoying its peace and quiet. He was an avid fisherman and couldn't wait each year for opening day. When he wasn't fishing, he was a fan of all the major Detroit sports and faithfully followed the Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, Pistons and of course his U of M Wolverines. GO BLUE!! We will always remember our annual family vacations in the U.P. The grandchildren will always keep their fond memories of fishing, catching minnows for bait, tubing, water skiing, holiday visits, hi fives and the good‐natured teasing with grandpa. They remember grandpa at their dance recitals, basketball and hockey games or grabbing a quick bite at a local restaurant. The nights would always end with a laugh and his favorite saying "and be good now". Followed by a good night kiss and his famous POP sound. Al is survived by his daughters Judy (John) Katona, Terri (Bob) Dallos. His sons Bill Hegedus, Bob (Kendra) Hegedus. 22 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred, his son Raymond, his parents Albert and Mary and his sisters Dorothy and Eleanor. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Chris Gariner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Munising on Wednesday September 6, 2023, at 12 o'clock noon. Interment will follow in Maple Grove cemetery. After which a visiting time and fellowship luncheon will be served at the church hall.
