Dena Nyboer

Dena Nyboer, born to Albert and Johanna Kortman in Grosse Ringe, Germany, on July 12, 1945, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Faith Hospice Trillium Woods on January 28, 2023, at the young age of 77 to be with her Lord and Savior who perfectly loved and kept her through the mountains and valleys of her life. She is preceded in death by her husband, John G. Nyboer in 2011, her parents, Albert and Johanna Kortman, her siblings Henry Kortman, Herman Kortman, Alaida Weerstra, Johan Kortman, Gesine Niers, Dieter Kortman, as well as her brother-in-law, Bob South, and sister-in-law, Mary Kortman. She is survived by her children, Amy Jo (Matt) Vogler, Michael Dean (Naomi) Nyboer; her grandchildren Katrina Vogler, Collin Nyboer, Shelby Nyboer, Bryce Nyboer, and Jarred Nyboer. Her siblings Harold (Lila) Kortman, Gerrit (Joanne) Kortman, Anna (Ray) Van Order, Jenni South, John (Arlene) Kortman; her sister-in-law, Fran Kortman, and her brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Ted (Donna) Weerstra, and many loved nieces, nephews. Dena was one of 12 children who came to America in 1954 to settle in Holland, Michigan. She was 8 years old. She graduated from Holland High School. She proceeded to work many jobs including many years as a Customer Service Representative at the corporate offices of both Zondervan Publishing House and then Gordon Food Service where she retired from. She was also a member of Jenison Bible Church. You would naturally find Dena smiling, laughing, gracious, and fun-loving. Her sweet spirit would find her talking with a complete stranger and make them her friend immediately. We can honestly say that she loved God by loving others. We must not forget to mention that Dena was always ready for a road trip. Whether it was a long drive or a short drive, a color tour, or a trip to the ice cream shop, she was ready to go. She made every effort to be involved in the lives of her grandchildren while they were growing up, whether it be grandparent day in elementary school, a basketball game or football game, choir concerts, musical or theatrical plays, she wanted to be there. Although she struggled to remember their names and their faces towards the end, she truly loved them. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland, Michigan, and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2023. Her funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. There will be a light lunch following the service. The interment will be in Floral View Cemetery following the luncheon for all who wish to be present.
