Ly Anouthay

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ly Anouthay, who died peacefully in her home at the age of 94 surrounded by loved ones. A dedicated matriarch, an industrious entrepreneur, and a loving wife, Ly lived a life marked by resilience, unwavering commitment to her family, and an adventurous spirit forged through a life of travel and hard work. Ly was born on March 10, 1931, in Champasak, Laos. She made her way to the United States in 1986, beginning her journey in Saginaw, Texas before traversing the country finding a forever home in Hamilton, Michigan. She was the proud mother of 13 children, embodying the heart and soul of her family. Known for her unwavering care and concern for her children and grandchildren, Ly always prioritized their well-being. Her nurturing spirit extended into her passions, which include yoga, gardening, and sewing, which she engaged with enthusiasm. She was the beloved wife of Daeng Anouthay, a decorated sergeant in the Royal Lao Army. Their marriage was a partnership that defined her life, as she and her children followed Daeng across the country, moving frequently into military housing installations. The nomadic lifestyle, while challenging, instilled in Ly an incredible adaptability and resourcefulness that she will carry with her always. In every new town, Ly carved out a life for her family through tireless effort and entrepreneurial ingenuity. She was a familiar face on the streets, making a living by selling goods—a skill she honed into a true craft. Her street stall was not just a means of income; it was a testament to her determination to provide a small center of commerce built entirely by her hands and her spirit. She was an extraordinary example of grit, ensuring her children had everything they needed despite the constant transitions and hardships of a military family's life. Ly was a source of unconditional love, wisdom, and strength for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her legacy is not only in the family she raised but in the lessons she taught: that resilience is the greatest asset, that love is the firmest foundation, and that with hard work, a person can build a home anywhere. Ly is survived by her devoted children: Vilaivan (Joi) Chanthammavong, Savanchit Siphasouk, Thavixay Anouthai, Phakhanton Anouthai, Chansavang (Rachael) Anouthai, Souraphone (Sam) Anouthai, Xay (Kathy) Anouthai, Somboun Anouthai, 39 Grandchildren, 56 Great-grandchildren, and 5 Great-great-grandchildren. Ly was preceded in death by her children: Paengphane Saenebouttarath, Savanchay Xayphaya, Xaysana Anouthai, Saengchan Saenebouttarath, and Konesavan Anouthai. Funeral services will be held from 1:00pm - 3:00pm on October 18, 2025 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th St. Holland, Mi 49423. Visitation prior to the service will begin at 11:00am. We will continue to honor her memory by embodying her incredible spirit. Ly Anouthay will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
