Velma Lorraine Nykamp

Velma Nykamp, age 87, of Holland, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Velma was the youngest of 7 siblings and admitted she was spoiled and given a lot of attention from her brothers & sisters. She loved it when her brothers would sing "Beautiful beautiful blue eyes" to her; and when they would take her to town to get an ice cream cone. She would not have traded her childhood growing up on a farm where they made their own fun & learned work ethics. Velma was married to Ron Myrick for 53 years, and together they raised their sons Tom Myrick and Dave Myrick in Holland. Velma worked for 22 years as the treasurer in Park Township where she was well known and well loved. After retiring she spent several years working elections and was an election inspector. After Ron's passing, she later married their longtime friend Ron Nykamp. Later in life she enjoyed camping, especially with her grandchildren, golfing & spent a lot of her spare time on the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan. When life blessed her with grandchildren she couldn't stop sewing unique outfits & Dutch costumes for them. Velma's later years were spent at the Warm Friend in downtown Holland, where she enjoyed her many friends and activities. She played in the Warm Friend Band, went on many outings and was especially passionate about playing cards with friends. She was an active member of Pillar Church. Velma was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her sons, Dave Myrick, Tom and Lori Myrick; grandchildren: Brittaney and Brock Finnestad, Hunter and Tiffani Myrick; great-grandchild, Blakely Finnestad; her step children and their families: Doug and Phyllis Nykamp, Dee and Mark Recker, Bob and Sue Nykamp; as well as many beloved friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ron Myrick and Ron Nykamp as well as by her many siblings. A memorial service will be at 1:30 PM on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 325 East 16th Street, Holland, MI 49423.
